Lunatic Apparel is a home-based manufacturer of outdoor wear and sleeping bags. My original plan, as a former river guide, was to make clothes from Polartec ® pile fabric that paddlers could wear on the water. (Thirty years ago pile (fleece) clothing was brand new, and mostly big jackets; not something you'd wear on a whitewater river!) Since 1992 we've grown to include a full line of pile clothing, accessories and sleeping bags. And now we've developed BUG CLOTHES™ Netting Apparel so you can stay cool and bug free in the summertime! We originally decided on "Lunatic Apparel" after noticing how many people paddle our local Wild & Scenic Chattooga river in the middle of winter. However, a year or two of running a one-man manufacturing plant made me suspect I was the lunatic. Then...I challenged Patagonia, Inc. over my Aquafur trademark, a multi-year legal ordeal that convinced me I was crazy. Happily, I won the challenge and in 2001 registered AquaFur® as my trademark. Lunatic Apparel lives on as a one-woman industry, dedicated to creating items that last for people who appreciate quality goods made in the USA.
